About Jean-Charles de Castelbajac
Ever since the debut of his first fashion collection in 1968, the French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (JCDC) has been offering a unique, funky and playful style to the fashion industry. In the designer world JCDC is known for his exaggerated bold style and for following his own way. This style, which has became his trademark for four decades, and his charismatic character have made him a figure of grand recognition in the fashion realm in Paris.
Those breakthrough designs were impressive indeed, and has begun collaboration with a great number of brands from different sectors like LEGO, Le Coq Sportif, South Park, Donald Duck and Bambi from Walt Disney. He has also reached much farther than the fashion field. In 2009, JCDC got into the world-class Paris store Lafayette, marking his brand as a trend setter of the industry, even top divas like Madonna, Katy Perry and Beyonce are JCDC’s devotees, and they are seen frequently dressing in some of JCDC’s works.
1968 is the year JCDC launched his very first fashion collection. 2009 is another exciting year for JCDC, as he launched his first watch collection with odm. JCDC identifies with odm’s playful and innovative brand characteristic, which matches with that of JCDC, and thus initiates a collaboration project. Through the collaboration, odm helps JCDC enter the watch market and helps the JCDC line to create more noise, a whole new arena for JCDC.
To me, time is the source of all games and joy; it is our ultimate luxury. There are two different emotions linked to my feeling for watches. The first is the worship of watch. There are certain watches that I feel very attached to, as it’s linked to my own story ... The second emotion is about the game and fun side of this daily object, like a toy, simple and precious, just like the watches I designed for odm. odm has all the qualities to partner with JCDC: dynamic, modern and high tech. The JCDC timepiece collection is fun, timeless and functional. I created it for all JCDC Fans.
